Markasso Cloud, and a gift for the Mac
2026-11-04 · AI-assisted, human-reviewed
Markasso 1.17 is out, and it's a slightly different release: for the first time there's something you can pay for. It's called Markasso Cloud, and before I tell you what it does, let me get the elephant off the whiteboard.
I'm not trying to get rich
Markasso started because I wanted a fast, dark whiteboard I could drive from the keyboard. It became the project I care about most, and that's not changing.
Some things, though, don't live in your browser. Synced boards and AI agents drawing in live sessions run on public infrastructure that is always on and costs real money every month. Markasso Cloud is 5 € a month or 48 € a year: the minimum to keep that part running. It's not buying me a yacht, at most a coffee now and then.
What Markasso Cloud does
- Cloud boards. Save a board from the Cloud menu and get a read link and an edit link. Open it on the web at the office and on the Mac at home, and it's the same board.
- AI agents in live sessions. Invite Claude, Codex or any other MCP agent into a session and it draws with you, on the same board, in real time.
No account needed. Payment goes through Polar, the licence key arrives by email, and you paste it into Markasso: if it's valid, there's confetti.
Everything else stays free
Everything Markasso did yesterday it still does today, for free, as always:
- the whole whiteboard, no limits;
- local files, in your browser;
- live sessions between people;
- the local MCP server, to let an agent draw on your boards;
- reading cloud boards someone shares with you.
Cloud is an extra convenience, not a toll. If you don't need it, Markasso asks you for nothing.
The gift: Markasso for Mac
Along with Cloud comes Markasso for Mac, a native app written in Swift. It's free.
It runs on macOS 26 or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel, and opens .markasso files like any app on the system. With a cloud board the flow comes naturally: the whiteboard on the web at work, on the Mac at home, and the board follows you. The build isn't notarized yet, so the first launch needs one extra step: the page has the instructions.
If you feel like it
If you like Markasso and Cloud is useful to you, subscribing is the nicest way to keep it alive. If you don't need it, that's perfectly fine: draw, share, tell someone about it. It means just as much to me.
