The Iris icon: a cream envelope with an iridescent wing

Iris

Mail and calendar for macOS and Linux. Your mail stays on your computer.

In development: macOS first

Iris reads Gmail, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com and any IMAP account, such as iCloud, Fastmail and Yahoo, and finds the server settings for you. It talks to Google and Microsoft straight from your Mac. No server of ours sits in between, and nothing about you or your mail is collected.

Every account, one inbox

Gmail, Microsoft and IMAP side by side, each with its own folders and labels, or all of them together.

A calendar that answers invitations

Week, month and agenda views, with invitations you can accept right from the message.

Private by default

Remote images stay blocked until you allow them, mail is read with scripts off, and sign-in tokens live in the macOS Keychain.

Signed and encrypted mail

OpenPGP and S/MIME through your own GnuPG. Iris never holds your private keys.

Write the way you like

Formatting as you type or Markdown, Undo Send, Send Later, templates and an outbox that retries for you.

An assistant, if you want one

Off until you choose a model. A local model keeps everything on your computer.

Status

Iris is a personal project by Alberto Barrago, in active development and not yet available to download. It is a modified version of Penguin Mail, a GTK mail client for Linux, and is free software under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later.
